Waiting for Indy

With summer in the US just weeks away, I eagerly await the upcoming summer movies slated for release.  One of the most awaited movies coming this summer is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  Harrison Ford reprises his role as the swashbuckling professor in this fourth sequel of the famous Steven Spielberg/George Lucas movie.  What fans eagerly await this time around is how the 64-year old Harrison Ford will perform his difficult stunts.  Producer Frank Marshall responds to questions about Indy’s age by saying that the older Indy is wiser with more aches and pains.  Indy will be a real character who makes mistakes and gets hurt — he will not be a superhero.  Nineteen years after the release of the last Indy movie, people just can’t help but wonder how Harrison Ford will do the difficult stunts that has been the signature of every Indiana Jones movie.

Although Ford claims that he has kept fit during the hiatus of the movie, we all know that he did gain considerable weight  through the years.  Ford did spend 3 hours a day at the gym and relied on a high-protein diet of fish and vegetables to prepare for the role.  Still, 64 years old is a bit far from 45 years old.  Even in The Last Crusade, Ford was nowhere near the same Indy in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

This time around Indiana Jones is having a quiet life teaching before being thrust back into this new adventure. He battles agents of the Soviet Union for the crystal skull. The crystal skull seem to be of alien origin or shaped by higher powers. Indy will travel across New Mexico, Connecticut, Mexico City, and the jungles of Peru, as well as the warehouse from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Like many others, I am counting the days till the worldwide release on May 22, 2008.  I only hope that Spielberg has not lost his magic and will make this fourth episode one for the books.
