Nokia N96: A Mobile Phone Junkie’s Newest Dream

The Nokia N95 was the mobile phone giant’s recent hits with over 7 million units sold to date. Following its footsteps is the much-awaited N96 which boasts of all the magic in N9, but with more enhanced features. Unlike the N95, this new multimedia phone has 16 GB of internal memory which can be extended further with the microSD memory slot that allows additional memory at a maximum of 16 GB. It has a 2.8 inch display with 16 million colors that shows off its capability to broadcast TV with the integrated DVB-H receiver.  It has a built-in motion sensor that rotates the screen when tilted (similar to the N82).  Like the N95, it has a 5 megapixel camera (Carl Zeiss optics) and a high quality in front of the phone for video calling and self-portrait use.  However, the camera flash is now dual-LED unlike the N95’s single LED.

The N96 has longer playback capability at 16 hours and video playback at 5 hours due to the improvement in its battery life.   The windows media WMV9 codec is now supported in the N96 with new audio DSP for improved audio quality.  It now has a kickstand on the cover for hands-free video viewing.  It provides DVD-like quality video capture at 30 frames per second and with the integrated A-GPS, consumers can now ‘geotag’ their pictures with location data and share them with their online communities.  The Nokia N96 naturally supports the Ovi family of Nokia internet services, including maps, music, media sharing and more.
