Man to Auction Off His Life at Ebay

Ian Usher wants a new life.  Following the break-up of his 5-year marriage and 12-year relationship with Laura, he believed the only way to cope was to sell his old life and start with a new one.  On June 22, 2008, he will start the auction of his entire life on Ebay.  The package includes a $397,000 3-bedroom house in Perth, Western Australia, a trial for his job at a rug store, his car, motorbike, clothes, and even friends.

From Sunday, June 22 for one week, Usher’s life is up for sale on eBay with the package including his $420,000 (US$397,000) three-bedroom house in Perth, Western Australia, a trial for his job at a rug store, his car, motorbike, clothes and even friends.  He is hoping to raise up to $500,000 to fund a new life.

Usher initially set up a website (www.alife4sale.com) for the sale. Most people believed it was a gimmick to attract ad revenues.  He denounces the accusations saying it has earned him very little and claims that it is for real.”This is nothing to do with revenge or making someone feel guilty. It’s about me doing what is right for me,” he said.

We all do strange things when we are depressed.  It’s not so much what we actually do, but it’s how we try to cope and survive.  For Ian, this may be the way he knows would help him survive the loss.  It’s strange, but if it works for him, why not?  I wonder if my life would have any takers?  Then again, I’m not sure if it would fetch a good price.  Maybe I will hold on to it for now, it’s not so bad really.
