Pacquiao Wins WBC Lightweight Title With a 9th Round KO

Philippine boxer Manny Pacquiao won the WBC lightweight title from US boxer David Diaz with a knock-out on the 9th round.  Pacquiao now holds the record for the first Asian boxer to hold title belts in four weight divisions.

For the lightweight title, Pacquiao had to bulk up to 135 lbs.  Many were fearful that it would affect his speed since he not fought this heavy before.  However, fears were groundless when Pacquiao proved he was just as fast and even stronger at his weight.  The champion boxer out-punched and out-fought Diaz in all rounds until the 9th when the latter fell to the canvas after a decisive punch from Pacquiao.  There was no need for the referee to count with Diaz all bloody and weak, the bout was immediately stopped in favor of Pacquiao.

Diaz explained his loss perfectly, “He was just too fast.”
