Travel in Comfort With the Cabin Cuddler

Traveling has always been something I don’t enjoy. Don’t get me wrong, I do love going to different places. However, I hate the trip — especially in cold airplanes or uncomfortable buses. The last time I visited my brother was the worst. I barely had a decent sleep because it was freezing and the plane seat was uncomfortable.

For frequent travelers like me, I think I might have found the perfect travel buddy to make trips comfortable regardless of the circumstances. The Cabin Cuddler was created especially for travelers who want the comfort that planes or vehicles could not provide. It is a 6-in-1 travel blanket and pillow which can be folded into a tote bag to hang on any standard luggage. The travel blanket is lightweight with a foot pocket and a shoulder wrap to keep you warm in plane cabins. Its contour cut ensures that every inch or your body is covered and kept warm. It also has an inflatable pillow to make you feel like you’re snoozing on your favorite sofa at home. The tote bag also serves as your hygienic pillow case.

Who says that you can’t travel light with a blanket and a pillow? With Cabin Cuddler, a comfortable trip is all neatly packed in a lightweight tote bag. Other than my credit cards, this is one travel companion I am not leaving home without.

The Blackberry Thumb and The IPod Finger

They say those gadgets that we humans are going gaga over can be detrimental to our health. I’m not talking about the alleged brain cancer that radio waves can give us. They have dubbed it with different names — nintendonitis, texting tendinitis, numb thumb, and more recently, the IPod finger and the Blackberry thumb. We seem to have become so engrossed with our gizmos that we overlook the fact that it causes stress to our fingers or wrists. Before texting became a craze, carpal tunnel syndrome was the most usual ailment we acquire from typing too much on our computer. We do tend to overdo it, don’t we?

Well, except for carpal tunnel syndrome, all the rest are minor injuries that can be cured with rest and therapy. Doctors advice that if we can’t control the use of our gadgets, we have to remember to flex and stretch them every so often. However, they still maintain that texting while driving or crossing the street is a no-no. This last habit can cause more than just injury. There have been reports that accidents due to texting while walking or driving has been on the rise. There have been a few deaths, but nothing alarming. Still, we have to control ourselves and remember that our safety comes first.

Bush Approves Housing Bill to Provide Mortgage Relief

President George W. Bush signed Wednesday the proposed housing bill that will provide mortgage relief to 400,000 homeowners currently struggling to meet mortgage payments and avoid foreclosure. The bill intends to provide assistance to troubled mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and stabilize financial markets.

It is regarded as the most significant housing legislation in decades which allows homeowners who cannot afford their payments refinance into more affordable loans supported by the government instead of losing their homes. The bill aims to take several approaches in assisting the ailing housing market. Homeowners will be provided more affordable mortgages backed by the Federal Housing Administration which would insure a total of $300 billion in mortgages. However, banks would have to agree to take large losses on the existing loans to avoid costly foreclosures. The bill would increase to $625,000 the size of home loans that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac can buy and the FHA can insure. They also could buy and back mortgages 15 percent higher than the median home price in certain areas.

Until 2009, the Treasury Department is given unlimited power to lend money to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac or buy their stock if necessary while the Federal Reserve will take on a new “consultative” role to watch over the companies.

Moreover, the measure includes $15 billion in tax cuts which includes an expansion of the low-income housing tax credit and a credit of up to $7,500 for first-time home buyers for houses purchased between April 9, 2008, and July 1, 2009.

Bridge Your Cash Shortage Between Paydays

I hate complaining about money. However, it seems to be getting tighter lately. For the same value of money, my grocery load seems lighter and my kids are forced to sacrifice and make do of non-essential luxuries. Ice cream is not a regular content of our freezer for months now. They now have to tolerate my homemade cookies instead of those delicious ones from Mrs. Fields.

I’m certain that things have become harder since for the last few months, I have always fallen short on funds before the succeeding payday comes. If you are in the same situation, you can find remedy in a payday cash loan. This is similar to a short term cash advance and has a term that ranges between 7 to 18 days. Upon availing of the loan, it becomes due on the next payday.

UrgentCashLoan.com offers this type of cash advance to consumers who need immediate relief from a cashflow gap. Rather than defaulting on your credit cards or incurring penalties or additional interests from creditors, this would be the better alternative. Considering the economic crunch lately, it would be a good idea to keep your credit rating whole and unblemished. Qualifications are not very strict and even those with bad credit are known to pass the criteria. It is not advisable though to make this payday loan a regular routine as it will possibly place you in deeper debt. This would be a good option for emergency situations or for those times when you want to avoid creditor penalties or bounced-check fees.

Overall, making sure that your debts are at manageable levels are still the smart thing to do in a crisis. During hard times, keep the budget tight, be resourceful and try to augment your income, get savings for most purchases, and save for a rainy day.

Kansas Toilet Woman’s Boyfriend Gets Probation

The boyfriend of a woman who was found by authorities stuck in a toilet in Kansas was charged by the court with mistreatment of a dependent adult with a sentence of 6 months probation. The defendant, Kory McFarren, who pleaded no contest last month was initially sentenced to 6 months in jail. However, the judge lowered the sentence after the girlfriend, Pam Babcock, asked for leniency. According to the girl, her circumstances were not his fault.

McFarren called Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple in March to ask for help with his girlfriend who he says has stayed in the bathroom for 2 years. When authorities reached the mobile home, they were surprised to find Babcock on the toilet unable to move. The toilet seat had already adhered to the sores on her body and it appears that her legs have atrophied from sitting there for too long. Medical experts estimate that she had been on the seat for a straight month which caused the sores and the atrophy. Babcock had to be brought to the hospital for the seat to be removed from her body.

Though McFarren claims he has been coaxing Babcock out for so long, he was charged for the misdemeanor simply because it took him so long to notify the authorities and thus causing injury to his girlfriend. According to Whipple, the girl obviously had some sort of mental incapacity which McFarren had taken for granted.

In my opinion, any man who allows her girlfriend to live in the bathroom for 2 years is definitely incapacitated too. Bringing her food and water everyday in the toilet doesn’t indicate that he had acted responsibly. McFarren was also charged in an unrelated case for lewd and lascivious behavior for exposing himself to a neighbor in March.

Babcock is currently under the protection of a guardian assigned to her by the legal department of the hospital where she received treatment.

Keep Your Bones Healthy & Prevent Osteoporosis

One of the most difficult parts of getting old is the weakening of the bones. Most people beyond 60 years old often develop osteoporosis and suffer fractures even in minor falls or accidents. Is there a way to prevent the slow decay of our skeletal structure?

Osteoporosis is a disease that makes the bones thin and brittle with holes inside of them. It affects millions of adults around the world and mostly occur in women. However, men can still acquire it. Most often, it occurs in women after menopause due to the lack of estrogen. Estrogen is known to protect the body from bone loss. For men, it is known to accelerate after testosterone production decreases. Risk factors that can’t be controlled include age, genetics, body build, and race. Reports indicate that those with slender frame are more likely to acquire the disease. Europeans and Asians are also known to be more prone to osteoporosis.

On the other hand, it is the manageable risk factors that we should try to manage. Smoking and alcohol make the bones lose density. If you are already among those who run the uncontrollable risks of getting osteoporosis, these vices should be avoided. Moreover, exercise and sufficient nutrition, especially those rich in calcium and vitamin D, also minimizes the risk of acquiring the disease.

There are medications that can minimize the risks or effects of osteoporosis. These are usually treatments that can increase bone density or slow the rate of bone loss. Those taking medication are advised to supplement their intake with calcium and vitamin D and exercise regularly. Then again, early detection is one of the best ways to minimize the risks. Aside from getting regular medical consultations, you should be conscious of symptoms such as back pains, loss of height, development of a dowager’s hump, and becoming prone to fractures.

As the cliche’ says, prevention is always better than cure. Just remember to drink milk as often as you can, eat a balanced diet, exercise, and get a good dose of the morning sun for your vitamin D.

Cisco Certification: The Road to Endless Opportunities

After graduating from high school, my first choice was actually a college degree in computer science or computer engineering. My mistake was that I opted to take my college education from an educational institution that had a very high reputation and standards — equivalent to an ivy league school in the US. And like any ivy league institution, technical degrees were difficult to enter. I ended up choosing a mediocre management degree, prioritizing the institution over the knowledge that I knew I could easily master even with only an above average mathematical prowess. Now, with over 18 years of work experience, I realized that the real world works quite differently from the standards of ivy league schools. I should’ve pursued a passion I knew would bring me further than I ever dreamed of, even at the time when computers were still not a necessity.

Since contemplating in retrospect will not bring me anywhere to obtaining the knowledge I wanted, I’m convinced that a separate training would be the only way to address my pursuit of technical knowledge. In my current job, I handle several sensitive information relative to finance and treasury. Management deemed that I was suitable to handle security protocols and my ability to easily adapt to new systems and electronic equipment allowed me to be given basic training in computer networking. It was only a taste of what I have always dreamed of. And after learning about the current opportunities and earning potentials of networking professionals, I want more.

When it comes to networking, nothing beats the value and worth of a Cisco certification. Cisco is the leading supplier of networking equipment and network management worldwide. I recently browsed the Cisco Learning Network and discovered that the multinational company offers certification programs for those who want to enhance their qualifications in information technology, specifically in networking. The first step is to acquire a CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) Certification. I realize that I will have to take additional training programs from authorized Cisco Learning Partners. The good thing is I already access to the tools available to pursue the knowledge that I want. Now, it is all up to me to travel this road that I desire.

For IT professionals who have already acquired enough knowledge in their field, I do encourage you to take Cisco’s certification programs. A Cisco certification will open doors for you that you have never thought possible. And at the rate that information technology is growing, it is a certainty that this qualification will be even more valuable in the years to come.

Samsung Anycall: The Science of Haptics

Haptics, from the Greek word “haptesthai,” means to touch. This new technology is what Samsung is currently banking on to get an edge over the stiff competition in the cellphone industry. Scientists have studied haptics for decades and have now determined the functions of skin receptors and how information travels from the point of contact to the central nervous system.

Samsung’s Anycall looks almost like the IPhone except that it will definitely boost its features to give the IPhone a run for its money. And considering that the IPhone is mostly hype and lacks so many of the high tech features of its competitors, the Anycall has a good chance of bumping it off its spot.

Though there is very little information to describe the new model, what has been reported is that the Anycall will operate with a touchscreen which will vibrate with a touch allowing the user to confirm that the input has been registered. However, unlike other touchscreen devices, it will have 22 different touch sensations depending on what the user wants the gadget to do. It will be the most advanced touchscreen device unless another company releases a similar gadget before its actual market release.

Experts predict that haptics will be the future in gadgets and it will become so advanced that users will be able to determine who the call is coming from just by touching it — a sort of digital Braille as they call it. The world of electronics is becoming so captivating every moment that it is almost difficult to catch up. Pretty soon, the concepts presented in sci-fi movies such as James Bond or Minority Report will now become a reality.

Better to Give Than to Receive

I love giving gifts. I believe it’s one of the things I live for. There’s nothing more enjoyable to me than shopping around for a gift to a loved one or a friend. My obsessive-compulsive tendencies do show sometimes in searching for gifts. I’m always fearful that the recipient will not enjoy or even like my gift. It can take me a whole day of shopping just to find a perfect gift — I have a tendency to look around all day, then go back to the first prospect eventually. I just want to make sure that I have exhausted all possibilities before I make my choice.

It seems my impulses to search all day may come to a halt. I just discovered an online shop for perfect gifts. GiftTree.com is an online store that specializes in providing exquisite gifts that any recipient will love. I’ve browsed through their entire line and my problem now is just confined to not knowing which one of all the great items in their shop is better than the other. Every single one I see is perfect. I’m especially partial to the personalized items such as the elegant ice cream bucket, the garden sundial, and even the engraved copper pendulum. Mind you, their gifts are not cheap plastic or aluminum products. Most are made from the highest quality materials that shout elegance and sophistication.

What I find most helpful in the website is the categorizing of gifts on a per occasion basis. Among other methods of organizing, the segregation of the products on a per occasion basis assures buyers that the gift is appropriate. You can search either among friendship day gifts, congratulation gifts, sympathy gifts, get well gifts, and many more. It is even amazing that they have pet gifts for the pet lovers out there.

It is no wonder that GiftTree is now celebrating 11 years of providing online service to almost 1 million satisfied customers. Clients include companies from the Fortune 500 list who have chosen the GiftTree to provide corporate giveaways that will represent their organization. So, if you are always in a dilemma over giving the perfect gift, look no further than just typing www.gifttree.com on your web browser.

The Twilight Zone: New Full-Length Movie

For fans of the vintage series The Twilight Zone, there are talks of making another full-length movie based on the famous Rod Serling series. Warner Brothers and Appian Way (Leonardo Di Caprio’s production company) are now looking to make a movie based on one of the stories featured in the series. Unlike the first movie made on the series, they want one that features only one story instead of 2 or three episodes.

When I was younger, I only caught the newer version of The Twilight Zone but it had become the show that I couldn’t miss. There were episodes that I remember to this day because of the unique and original concepts presented. I loved the idea of “Lost and Found,” or “The Road Less Traveled.” And one of the most unforgettable love stories I have ever watched was “Aqua Vita.”

The original series was still in black and white and started before 1960. However, it’s amazing how even the original versions could be compelling even to those who weren’t even born at the time they were first shown. I believe the series not only aroused interests but actually cultivated creativity with the unique and unpredictable stories. The end of every episode will keep you thinking about the possibilities.

My kids have never seen The Twilight Zone. Now, I wonder if they will appreciate it the way our generation did. Life and imagination is so much more different now. I’m certain if the new movie version will be made, it will be adapted to the current trends. The original concept of the episodes are timeless. Yet, the storytelling can be improved to show additional twists and plots together with astounding special effects that can make the movie even more compelling and imaginative.

Again, I take my hats off to one of the geniuses that have so graciously contributed to the magic of entertainment whose work has definitely been an inspiration to the imagination of the new generation, Mr. Rod Serling.

Shop for Babies at ShopWiki

After writing about the rare Gerth twins in Germany, I can’t help but think about how much it would cost to take care of two babies at the same time. Though expense may not be an issue for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or even J Lo, it will be a tight budget for normal folks like us to raise twins. As a matter of fact, they may prove to be more expensive considering that parents of twins would like to have matching pairs of every item for their babies.

Shopping for babies, twins or not, will have to be well-managed. No other online shop can provide you better deals and savings than ShopWiki.com. ShopWiki will provide online shoppers with all the available stores in the web for your needs rather than just give you results coming from advertisers or supporters. Since it crawls all the stuff in the internet, it is definite that you will be able to get the best savings for your purchases.

When I browsed through the ShopWiki site for baby products, I couldn’t help but marvel at all the results available. The search yielded different baby accessories such as strollers, toys, nursing products, and even items to babyproof your home. You can even access related items such as maternity products and children’s clothing. ShopWiki is definitely one of the best resources for any parent in the worldwide web.

God’s Answer to Racism

We have come a long way since the American Civil War and Apartheid in Africa. Yet, there is no denying that traces of racial discrimination still exists in most parts of the globe. Maybe the world needs a couple of more decades before every human being realizes that the color of our skin doesn’t make one better than the other.

While we continue to perceive that racial differences still remain a factor in politics or in other facets of our everyday life, God seems intent to show us that it has no place in this world. In Sana Hospital, Germany, Leo and Ryan were born on July 11, 2008 proving to the world that twin brothers can have different colors of skin. In a rare twist of genetics, Ryan had his father’s fair German skin while Leo inherited his West African mother’s dark shade. According to doctors, this type of twins are one in a million. The odds for a fertilized egg cell to split and separately acquire the genetic make up of each parent perfectly is so rare that the twins made headlines all over the world.

Though mixed-race couple Florence and Stephen were surprised by their twin boys, they say it was more important for them that both were healthy. Though there have only been a few like Leo and Ryan in the world, it is still God’s way of telling us that neither race nor color can deny that we are family.

Experience the Beauty of Hawaii at Ko Olina

If you were asked to describe a taste of heaven, what would it be like? For me, it’s lying on a hammock watching the sunset under the terrace of a beachfront cottage in some faraway tropical paradise. The sound of the waves and the smell of the sea calming your senses as you relax and doze off without a care in the world. Sounds good on paper doesn’t it?

Well, don’t just let visions of paradise play in your head. After all the hard work you have done throughout the year, you deserve rest and relaxation in a tropical haven where troubles and stress are designed to melt away. And when we talk of such paradise, nothing comes close to Hawaii with its temperate climate and beautiful pristine beaches. Ko Olina Oahu is the best destination when it comes to vacations at the tropics. The prestigious Ko Olina Resort offers beachfront views of scenic Oahu with a spacious and luxurious penthouse to make your vacation as perfect as it can be.

The Ko Olina Resort boasts of first class amenities which include a championship golf course designed by the renowned Ted Robinson that hosts the LGPA Fields Open, a fitness spa, a beachside bar, lap and nature-style pools, and a private lounge. You can even experience authentic Hawaiian Luaus at the famous Paradise Cove which is adjacent to the Ko Olina.

If everything I have described above does not describe a piece of heaven on earth, I don’t know what will.
