Oldest Blogger in the World Dies

The oldest known blogger in the world dies at the age of 108 in a nursing home in Australia. She died after posting her final message about singing a happy song with friends and nurses in the home. On her website, a note was posted saying that “Olive Riley passed away peacefully on July 12 and will be mourned by thousands of internet friends and hundreds of descendants and other relatives.”

Olive Riley was born in the outback town of Broken Hill on Oct. 20, 1899. She survived 2 world wars and raised 3 children while working as a ranch cook and barmaid. Initially, her blog was www.allaboutolive.com.au but more recently it was http://worldsoldestblogger.blogspot.com. According to relatives, she found blogging a mind-blowing experience. As a blogger, she had friends and contacts from all around the world such as Russia and the US.

Her last post described how she sang a happy song with a friend’s daughter and how the nurses joined the singing, turning the event into a concert. It’s nice to think that she was enjoying herself before she passed away. But it also dampens the spirit to think that she was not spending these happy moments with family. If I were to go, I’d want to have my children beside me at least. I want them to be the last thing I view in this world before I go.
