Natalie Cole Diagnosed With Hepatitis C

Natalie Cole, 58-year old daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole, was recently diagnosed with Hepatitis C and is currently undergoing treatment.  It may have been attributed to her drug use years ago.  Although she has been cleared of the virus through anti-viral treatment, she suffered significant side effects from the medications.  She is currently experiencing muscle aches, fatigue, and dehydration.  Doctors say she is recovering well from these.  Her positive response from the medication indicates that her chances of cure are high.

The major complications that Hepatitis C can cause the body is the chronic infection of the liver.  This can further lead to fibrosis (scarring of the liver) or cirrhosis (advanced scarring).  On the other hand, cirrhosis is often known to progress to cancer of the liver.

Natalie is set to release a new album, “Still Unforgettable,” a follow-up to her 1991 Grammy-winning and multi-platinum cd “Unforgettable . . . With Love.”  She believes that the support of friends and family together with her abiding faith in herself is helping her deal with this new challenge in her life.
