Shakir Stewart Commits Suicide

Executive Vice President of Def Jam Recordings, Shakir Stewart, was found dead in his New York apartment Saturday from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Stewart is responsible for signing talents such as Rick Ross, and Young Jeezy. He previously worked at Hitco Music Publishing where he signed Beyonce and at LaFace Records where he signed up Ciara. No further details on the suicide was available at press time.

Shake, as his friends call him, is considered one of the more successful publishers being responsible for Billboard No. 1 hits such as Destiny Child’s “Survivor”, Outkast’s “The Way You Move”, both Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” and “Baby Boy.” He is also responsible for assembling and organizing Usher’s hit “Yeah” on the 12-time platinum album Confessions.
