Manny Pacquiao proved that youth was better than experience in his fight with Oscar de la Hoya on December 6, 2008. Pacquiao dominated the fight from the start till the 8th round hitting the older fighter continuously while dodging and dancing around avoiding hits.
From start to finish, it was evident that Pacquiao had the upper hand as he easily danced around De La Hoya. De La Hoya’s chance of winning was to get solid hits on his younger contender. However, that proved more difficult than he anticipated as his target moved left and right, seemingly having limitless energy as the fight progressed. In the 7th round, Pacquaio cornered De La Hoya and pummeled him with combinations of left and right jabs, making his cuts worse as he seemed to lose all offense and desperately tried to get out of the fix.
The referee finally calls a Technical Knockout (TKO) after the 8th round as De La Hoya raises the white flag and concedes the fight with his face bloodied and swelling. Despite the Filipino camp’s doubts with De La Hoya’s height and reach advantage, Pacquiao came in with faith that he will have the strength to overcome the boxing legend together with prayers from his countrymen.
Manny Pacquiao has given the Filipino people another great victory amidst all the political and economic turmoil the country is facing. Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao!
