While most of us complain about our financial problems or emotional problems, people like Nick wake up in the morning with a smile on their face believing in the wonders that the world has to offer. Watching this video has put me in shame as I remember whining about how difficult the life that God has given me. May this inspire us to find light during our darkest moments and see beauty in the ugliest of circumstances.
Nick Vujicic was born on December 4, 1982 with the rare Tetra-amelia disorder, a congenital disorder characterized by the absence of all 4 limbs. His Serbian Christian parents were initially devastated. Their boy was healthy, but they knew the difficulties that would lie ahead.
Though not mentally impaired, he was not allowed to attend a mainstream school because of his disability. Fortunately, the laws in Australia changed during his schooling and was soon able to attend a normal school. He learned to write using the two toes on his left foot and a special device that slid onto his big toe to grip. He also learned to use a computer and type using the “heel and toe” method.
At the age of 8, he began to contemplate suicide as he was often bullied in school. Nick begged God to grow him limbs but soon realized that his accomplishments provided inspiration to many. His mother also showed him a newspaper clipping of a man with severe disability and realized he was not alone. At 17, he began to give speeches at his prayer group and founded his non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs.
Nick graduated from college at the age of 21 with a double major in Accounting and Financial Planning. He started traveling as a motivational speaker, speaking to teenagers and the corporate sector. His goal is to become an international speaker in both Christian and non-Christian venues. He has spoken to over two million people so far, in twelve countries on four continents.
