Season 1 of the television series Game of Thrones now has more than just nudity, violence, and foul language that some people find offensive. They also have the head of former president George Bush on a pike. Producers of Game of Thrones found themselves in hot water when word went out that one of its fake heads on a pike in the season 1 finale was that of former president. They even went so far as to admit it in the DVD commentary.
David Benioff and DB Weiss insist that it was not a political statement. The production rents prosthetic body parts in bulk to be used during shoots. And someone just mentioned that one of the heads on the pike did look like the ex-president.
American politicians found it reprehensible and called for a boycott of the show and its network. This prompted its creators and HBO to immediately issue a public apology. Benioff and Weiss stated that they meant no disrespect to former president George W. Bush when they mentioned it in the DVD commentary and admitted that it should not have been mentioned in the first place.
The network likewise issued its own apology insisting that they were dismayed and found such actions from the show’s producers unacceptable. They reiterated that the producers of the show apologized for the mistake and will ensure that it will be omitted from future DVD production.
Now, I have to buy the season 1 DVD of Game of Thrones. A stroke of luck or marketing genius? You tell me.
