The Oscars 2013 is over and since the top awards were no surprise, people seemed more entertained to talk about Kristen Stewart’s crutches, Anne Hathaway’s nipples, and Jennifer Lawrence tripping as she picked up her award. Argo wins the Best Picture award this year, partially vindicating Ben Affleck for being snubbed as director nominee. Apparently, Argo is the first film to win the Best Picture award without its director being nominated in over two decades.
Though Jennifer Lawrence tripped on her way to accepting the Best Actress award, it still doesn’t change the fact that she wore one of the best gowns of the evening along with Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart. Even as the Twilight star hobbled on stage to present an award, Kristen’s Reem Acra gown was a stunning ensemble. On the other hand, Charlize Theron was absolutely regal and statuesque in her white Dior gown.
This year, I actually believe the nominees for the supporting category are better performers than their major counterparts. Anne Hathaway’s performance was clearly unforgettable compared to that of Jennifer Lawrence. Meanwhile, I enjoyed watching Christoph Waltz better than Daniel Day Lewis — I don’t even remember if I reached the part where honest Abe was assassinated before I dozed off.
Anyway, as we go through another year waiting for the next set of movies to come our way, here’s hoping that this year gives us better than what Hollywood has been offering us lately.
