It’s fall season again and for us TV fanatics, there is more to expect than the holidays or the cool breeze in the air. It’s the time for new season episodes of the best tv series on air or the start of any new TV series that has the gall to compete with the best. Which are the best?
Of course, the much anticipated season 5 of The Walking Dead is scheduled to start on October 12, 2014. Fans of the series (like me!) are dying to find out how the team will worm their way out of a sealed container van heavily guarded by what appears to be a group of cannibals. I have faith. And like Rick said, they have no idea the people they are dealing with. Another one on the top of my list is the new season of American Horror Story. This time it’s dubbed as Freak Show and the trailer shows really creepy characters I can’t wait to see. Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates have made TV series top notch with flawless acting. I wasn’t that crazy with the stories behind the past seasons’ Coven and Asylum. But I believe the show will be able to redeem itself with this new story line.
Then there is bipolar CIA agent Carrie from Homeland. While I am not much of a fan of shows featuring political intrigue and espionage, I must admit I do find Homeland interesting and I do place it on the top of my list as one of the good ones. Scandal will also start its new season this fall, but I think I’ve grown tired of an unfaithful US President. If I do decide to watch Scandal again, it’s going to be on my nothing-else-better list.
On the lighter side, I can’t wait to see Sheldon and Amy again in The Big Bang Theory. Now on its 8th season, it’s clearly the comedy series to beat for the past several years. It’s so freaking good that the show has been renewed for 3 more seasons — truly a feat when majority of new shows can’t even make it past season 1. I just hope their million dollar contracts don’t ruin everything. And then there’s The Goldbergs which make me laugh when I’m reminded of the 80’s. The show’s throwback to the 80’s has given them quite a following from my generation. The award-winning Modern Family is likewise coming up with their new season this fall. I like the show, but I still prefer Sheldon’s gang playing 3D chess or talking Klingon.
Other new seasons I do look forward to are Criminal Minds, Resurrection, and Once Upon a Time (in that order). Those in my nothing-else-better list are Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Scandal, Revenge, Sleepy Hollow, and Supernatural. On occasion, I might see New Girl (too bad it spiraled downwards), Person of Interest, and Agents of Shield (if only to ensure I keep up with the stories revolving around Avengers).
Let’s get to the heart of the matter. There are several new shows cropping up this Fall 2014. The past years have shown that getting renewed for a new season has become difficult. It’s no longer simply about competition. The TV audience has developed much more sophisticated taste when it comes to television. Apart from good acting and believable characters, it’s imperative to provide them with a new story.
What do we look forward to this Fall 2014 among the newcomers? There’s Z Nation (the Walking Dead wannabe), The Flash, Constantine (I still prefer the Keannu Reeves movie), Intruders, Stalker, Madam Secretary, The Affair, Gracepoint, A to Z, Kingdom, Bad Judge, and How to Get Away with Murder.
I’ve seen a pre-showing of the pilot among some of them and just the trailers of the rest. So far, I believe the next hit will be How to Get Away with Murder. Let’s see. . .
