The Fall season is the most exciting time for couch potatoes like me. I am eager to watch the different series that TV producers have come up with for the year. For the past years, barely 20% get renewed and many don’t last beyond the 2nd or 3rd season. Still, we are eager to find new gems every year that can be real winners like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead. Here is a list of what I have seen so far and what I think.
This is my favorite among the newbies so far. Jamie Alexander stars as Jane Doe, a naked woman covered in tattoos found inside a duffle bag in Times Square. They soon discover she may be a Navy Seal and found that her tattoos are clues to crimes in the city. Jane is stripped of her memories but her fighting skills are intact and she is a total bad ass (I love it!). I’ve always wondered what draws me into movies or tv shows. I think an important part for me (aside from a good story) is the authenticity of the actors playing the characters. Jamie Alexander is perfect for the role of a female Navy Seal. Her moves are authentic and her body type perfect. And she is not wearing high-heeled boots while running and fighting criminals on the streets! Sullivan Stapleton as FBI agent Kurt Weller is a bit stiff though.
The Minority Report
Ok, I love the movie. But the TV spin-off leaves a lot to be desired. It was a total disappointment for me. I don’t even know why exactly. I just find myself drifting off while watching and I don’t mind missing large portions of the show while I do chores in the house. I think it boils down to authenticity again — Meagan Good doesn’t seem to look the part. Her shirts show too much cleavage and she doesn’t seem comfy holding a gun. I doubt she will be doing any fight scenes. I tried to find other comments from other viewers and I did see one viewer saying how good she looks from the back — really? Ugh . . . I feel the same for this as I did with the cancelled Deception. Meagan Good is a beauty, but she needs to find a character that fits her — like Kerry Washington fits her character in Scandal (brilliantly sophisticated). Everything should work — from her acting, to the way she moves, and the way she is dressed. Those tank tops in Minority Report are typical of tough bad ass female characters, but they don’t look the same way for Meagan as it does for Linda Hamilton in Terminator, Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, or Zoe Saldana in Columbiana. Sorry . . . I don’t see this series going beyond a single season. I’d be surprised if it gets renewed.
I watched this a few times more and it gets worse every time. Meagan Good seems to have this consistent scowl on her face regardless of the situation. And I keep wondering how she breathes through her skin tight clothes — enough with the cleavage!!! She’s got boobs and she’s got back . . . we know! No need to bombard viewers with every curve of her body.
After watching the prologue, Dark Matters, and the first few episodes of Heroes Reborn, I’m still on the fence. I think I’m still waiting for Hiro Nakamura to show up and hoping that Sylar makes a cameo too. At least this 13-episode mini series still has me glued the entire episode. I find the video game chick weird though — how is that a super power? I love the teleporter though — that’s one cool super power I’d love to pick up. Let’s see how this one plays out.
I’m speechless on this one — not because I find it awesome, but because I feel so indifferent to it. It’s not so bad, but it’s not really that good either. It’s the kind I watch because there is nothing else on. Let’s just hope it picks up in the next episodes. Like The Minority Report, it picks up where the movie left off and we have a normal guy getting brain powers from the NZT drug that he uses to help the FBI with their cases. Some viewers find this quite interesting, but I prefer kick-ass ladies with mixed martial arts prowess over geniuses. Dr. Reed from Criminal Minds has that genius part covered for me.
I will add more to this post as I see the other new shows this Fall 2015 season.
