Heath Ledger as The Joker May Win Oscars

Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker in the upcoming Batman flick, The Dark Knight, is not quite that of the typical villain in a superhero movie. The character was darker than it has ever been. The character was darker than it has ever been. There were earlier rumors while shooting that Ledger’s portrayal was remarkable. However, some speculated that it may be a publicity stunt for the film. All doubts dissipated during the screening of the movie.
The persona that Ledger embodied was maniacal and psychotic, leading Gary Oldman (playing the the cop Jim Gordon) to comment that he was arguably the greatest screen villain the he has ever seen. Filmmaker and comic fan Kevin Smith likewise gave a thumbs up to Ledger saying that the actor didn’t so much as perform the character as he disappeared completely into the role.

the heavy favorite in the upcoming Oscar Awards this month. The movie is a the film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s bestselling novel and stars Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, and Saoirse Ronan. The film is a story of mistaken intentions, innocence, and a lie that can ruin a dream. Ronan brilliantly plays the part of Briony Tallis, a 13-year old fledgling writer with a vivid imagination. Briony’s schoolgirl crush on Robbie (McAvoy), the housekeeper’s son, leads her to mistaken conclusions on his character. As she watches the romance between Robbie and her sister Cecilia (Knightley) blossom, she mistakes Robbie’s amorous attention and advances towards her sister as sexual perversion. Her sexual naivety leads her to wrongly accuse Robbie of raping her underage cousin. She lies to authorities assuring them that it was Robbie that she witnessed doing the sinister deed when in fact it was her imagination, jealousy, envy, and innocence that led her to twist the truth. 
Included among the best pictures in 2007 is Atonement which stars Keira Knightly, James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan. It is a film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s romantic novel which features the drama about a fledgling writer, Briony Tallis, who, as a 13-year-old, irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister’s lover of a crime he did not commit. Through a terrible and courageous act of imagination, she finds the path to her uncertain atonement, and to an understanding of the power of enduring love. Atonement has the advantage of already garnering the best film award in the Golden Globe and seems to be the heavy favorite. Another promising nominee is Juno. The main character, Juno (Ellen Page), is a 16-year old girl who gets herself pregnant and she finds foster parents for her unborn child. The movie explores the life of a teenage girl trying to cope with the consequences of irresponsibility. The story’s twist happens when Juno spends time with the prospective parents of her unborn child and develops an unusual closeness to the future dad which puts everyones plans into to the brink of chaos. Other nominees for best picture are Michael Clayton, There Will Be Blood, and No Country for Old Men.
