While it has become apparent the past years that the quality of Hollywood movies has been going downhill, it seems that the contrary is happening to television. For the past couple of years, we have seen quality television shows, some even featuring renowned movie celebrities. Aside from quality, the genre has likewise evolved into more daring concepts previously seen only in movies. Now, we see several TV series with interesting stories and twists complemented by outstanding special effects. TV producers now realize that giving its viewers the best that entertainment can offer may prove to be more profitable than making movies.

Can we credit “Lost” to this evolution in tv programming?  Maybe.  Nevertheless, we now find ourselves glued to our seats at home while we watch the newest the TV broadcasting can offer.  After the success of the Golden Globe nominated American Horror Story recently with Jessica Lange and Dylan McDermott, the highly anticipated The River is up to prove itself next week.  Produced by Steven Spielberg, The River is directed by no less than Oren Peli of Paranormal Activity and Insidious.  As expected, it will feature found footage camera work made popular by The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, and of course, Paranormal Activity.  While more traditional TV viewers may find the found footage style annoying, it does have fans now eagerly awaiting the pilot episode. After 6 years of marriage, famous couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher announced their divorce on Thursday, 17 November 2011.  Considered one of the most controversial yet fave couples in Hollywood because of the 12 year gap in their age, Demi Moore explained that as a mother, a wife, and a woman, there are certain values and vows that she holds sacred and it is in that spirit that she has decided to move forward in her life without Ashton Kutcher.

Rumors have been going around about intense fighting that no marriage counseling for the couple could fix.  With Demi’s statement, it seems that the alleged infidelities of Kutcher are true and could be the primary cause of the split.  During the early stages of the couple’s relationship, Demi and Ashton were brushed off and expected to be short-lived because of the age difference.  Following a few year’s of marriage, it appeared that the relationship was going strong and the two have become an iconic model of a May-December love affair.  Unfortunately, skeptics may have been right.  And so ends another fairy tale . . .

The trial of Dr. Conrad Murray for the death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009 began today showing a grim photo of Jackson dead on a hospital gurney together with another picture showing his rehearsals for his planned London concerts.  Prosecutors opened by telling jurors that Michael Jackson’s misplaced trust in Dr. Conrad Murray cost him his life.  On the other hand, Murray’s lawyers countered that the pop star self-administered a dose of propofol that with the lorazepam that caused his death.

Michael’s choreographer, Kenny Ortega, took the stand claiming that the pop star was not feeling well and incoherent during some rehearsals.  He sent an email to AEG Live CEO Randy Philips informing of his concern about Michael’s psychological state.  He was later berated by Murray for acting like a doctor.  However, just 4 days after being sick, Michael seemed to have recovered and had more energy.  When asked if he believed Michael to be abusing drugs, Ortega answered in the affirmative.

With Two and a Half Men poised to return to CBS in a couple of days, Ashton Kutcher decides to spice up his entry into the show as Charlie Sheen’s replacement by having a video in his birthday suit in the Ellen de Generes Show.    The video matches the print ads for the season premiere of Two and a Half Men with Kutcher, Jon Cryer, and Angus T. Jones appearing to be naked underneath a huge placard.

While many speculate that the show will not be the same without Charlie Sheen, Ashton Kutcher’s brand of comedy may yet be able to pull it off.  Here’s the video together with part of the interview.

Novak Djokovic finally gets his first title at the US Open  by defeating Spanish former topseed, Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Rafa was completely dominated and outplayed and Novak now has a formidable 6-0 winning streak against Nadal in the final this 2011. Incidentally, Novak has also won 3 out of the 4 Grand Slam tennis this year.

From where Certified Blogaholic is standing, this confirms our earlier prediction that we are seeing a new rivalry in the tennis world.  The Nadal-Djokovic neck and neck battle will continue and we look forward to the next competition between these lads at the Australian Open as well as in the British Open. 

It seems that one of the many tattoos of Megan Fox is no longer needed as she admits to having it removed.  After people noticed her Marilyn Monroe tattoo on the right arm fading, she admitted that she is parting ways with the iconic actress.  According to her, Monroe represented a negative image because of personality disorders.  Previously, the Fox mentioned that Monroe’s tattoo served as a warning to her to never allow the film industry to break her down.  She probably feels no need for the warning now.  Nevertheless, she still keeps some of her other body art intact.

Meanwhile, after rumors that Megan Fox has an eating disorder, the actress now starts to gain weight and getting her curves back. She admitted to losing much weight and has now dropped her vegan diet of raw fruit and vegetables.  She now eats a bit of everything getting back the body she had always been famous for.

In January, Apatow said HitFix.com, while the film per se is a sequel to “Knocked Up” not, it to life following Rudd and Mann’s character is going on.

“This is forty” is scheduled for release on 1 June 2012.

Lionsgate announced this week that “Kidnapping” will be released soon on VOD (Video on Demand). The film will be released three months later the VOD that hits theaters and will go for a low price of $ 6.99.

The Material Girl just turned 53 and she remains to be a controversial icon in the industry despite her age.  Though Madonna already has a teenage daughter, Lola, who is making news for herself, she continues to awe fans and media with her non-conformist lifestyle.  Despite the controversies, Madonna is a  well-respected member of the music industry and her music will remain legendary even in the next generation.

Madonna is shown here with her 24-year old boyfriend, Brahim Zaibat, with her kids playing nearby in the Hamptons a day before her birthday.  We’ve all seen and heard her in more eyebrow-raising stories — this is no longer a surprise.

During the “Pizzo & skin” BritBrit show, stopped the rigid reality hair star on stage, a pink boa wrapped around his neck and strutted his stuff while Pauly smiled and bobbed his head to beat.

Tina Fey gave birth on Wednesday to a bouncing baby girl, naming the new addition to the family Penelope Athena.  The 30 Rock actress first revealed her pregnancy in Oprah last April.  Penelope Athena is preceded by 5-year old Alice Zenobia, the couple’s first baby girl.

During a visit to Ellen Degeneres, Fey said that she and husband Jeffrey Richmond would like to be be surprised by the baby’s gender. She also mentioned that the second pregnancy was a lot easier than the first one.  Congratulations to Tina and Jeffrey!

Following the kinder (and bland) version of the revamped American Idol a few months ago, Simon Cowell predicts that the US version of “The X Factor” will easily outshine its other rival singing competitors as it debuts on Fox in September 2011. The former ruthless judge of the American Idol is set to return as the same unmerciful judge in The X Factor which reunites him with previous AI judge, Paula Abdul.

One of the most recognizable faces in the Indy racing circuit in the past years is none other than Danica Patrick.  The 29-year old American race car driver is the  first woman to win an Indy car race after winning the Indy Japan 300 in 2008.  In the 2009 Indianapolis 500, Danica Patrick achieved a personal best and placed 3rd — the highest finish by a female in the event’s history.  She finally began racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series  in 2010 driving the #7 GoDaddy.com, Chevrolet/Impala for JR Motorsports.  She currently drives the #7 GoDaddy.com, Honda/Dallara for Andretti Autosport.  In March 2011, she achieved a best career finish of 4th in series at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, earning another milestone as the best ever by a woman in a NASCAR top circuit.
