iPhone 6 Coming in May 2014?

iPhone 5 vs 5S
You just came from the Apple store and now excitedly unwrapping your new iPhone 5S. After configuring everything like your iPhone 5, you browse the net to find out how you can dress up your new toy, something stops you dead in your tracks — “Apple to release iPhone 6 in a few months.”  If you’re contemplating hitting your head with your new baby, don’t.  There’s probably no significant improvement with the rumored new iPhone — check out the difference with the iPhone 5 versus the iPhone 5S.

Samsung Flexible Display

No, it’s not going to have that curved display that Samsung has been floating around with the Galaxy Round.  But it is rumored to be bigger than any iPhone ever released.  Looks like Apple is trying to get in on the phablet trend — though unlikely to be as big as the Galaxy Note, it is said to be in the 5-inch range.  Rumors estimate the release of the iPhone 6 by May 2014.  Apple has never released iPhone models this close to each other and will most certainly affect the current sales of the iPhone 5S.

To fanboys and fangirls, this is a nightmare.  For someone like me, it’s just another excuse why I still haven’t bought my first iPhone — just heard the new one is coming out soon, will wait for it. :-))

Happy holidays  to everyone.  Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to us all!

Sony Launches New Generation Console Playstation 4

After almost 7 years, Sony finally unboxed the much-awaited version of its gaming console, the Playstation 4.  Much like the iPhone, the new generation Playstation has been the subject of rumors and speculation over the years.  But unlike the iPhone that updates in just over a year, it took the Playstation several years before it came out with its new gaming console.

The new Playstation 4 will be powered by an X86 Jaguar AMD processor with a phenomenal 8 CPU cores.  It promises better graphics with an enhanced GPU and 8GB of GDDR5 RAM.  Along with the usual USB and HDMI ports comes a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection.  However, the biggest innovation to the Playstation 4 is the DualShock 4 controllers equipped with a touchpad, a stereo camera for 3D position tracking, and buttons that will make interactive gaming more fun with friends.

While most gamers are now eager to get their hands on Sony’s new console, they may still need more time to wait.  The Playstation 4 is scheduled to launch just before the holidays this year.

Can Windows Phone 8 Steal the Market Under Apple & Samsung’s Squabbles?

Windows Phone 8 Tries to Pull a Fast One While Apple & Samsung Focus on Ripping Each Other Apart.

Nokia & HTC Windows Phone 8

It’s all over the news again as Apple and Samsung’s legal battle appear to becoming more complicated.  The court has just ordered Apple to disclose the details of its agreement with HTC.  While Apple is fuming and Samsung is rejoicing over this  possible light on the horizon, Windows Phone 8 will try to steal the thunder from under their noses.  This holiday season, the first smartphones holding Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8 OS will be hitting the shelves in a bid to lure consumers on their side of the fence.

The first handsets to be equipped with the new Windows Phone 8 OS are the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X.  Both have dual-core processors and high resolution displays that rivals that of the iPhone 5.  The Nokia Lumia 920 has a 4.5″ inch Corning Gorilla Glass 2 display at 332 ppi while the HTC 8x comes with a 4.3″ Corning Gorilla Glass 2 display at 342 ppi.  Though HTC 8x is equipped with dual cameras (8mp back camera and 2.1mp up front), reviews noted that the Lumia 920 shows better results with its 8.7mp PureView camera and Carl Zeiss lens.  Moreover, the Lumia 920 is the first smartphone with the Qi (pronounced chi) wireless charging capability.  The Lumia likewise outguns HTC with a 32gb storage capacity versus the latter’s measly 16gb.

But the real question remains — can these Windows Phone 8 models give the iPhone 5 a run for its money?  In terms of features and hardware, there is hardly any significant edge over any of these smartphones.  But the biggest advantage that the iPhone will always have over most of its competitors is the 700,000+ apps in the Apple Store.   This is one hurdle that Windows 8 will have to overcome if it plans to compete with iOS and Android.

For now, the Windows Phone 8 did stir the interest of consumers, particularly the Nokia Lumia 920.  Though still playing catch-up. the potential remains formidable considering compatibility with all Windows 8 gadgets.  Aside from potential, it is considerably cheaper than compared to the premium prices that Apple offers.  And it is probably at this stage of the game that it would be a good time to buy a Windows 8 gadget.  The apps may not be there yet, but like they say — if you build it, they will come.
