A few more months and I am set to renew the blogs web hosting contract. I didn’t know much about web hosting or blogging till my friend brought this world into my life. So far, it has been my refuge and has helped me a lot in terms of knowledge. Now, the critical part of my learning will have to evolve. I know I have to start learning more about the technical aspects of the blog since I plan to make it survive for years.

I learned so far that the most critical aspect of maintaining my blog is to find a reliable web hosting service. For the blog’s initial year, I had a good friend do that for me. We got it relatively cheap for the first year, but I know the second year will entail full service payments with no discounts. It has been reliable and I have not experienced major downtime for the blog. At the moment, I am contemplating whether to stay safe and keep the blog where it is, or find cheap web hosting that will prove just as reliable as the current one.

How do you find a good web host? I found some good pointers from articles of WebHostingRating.com prior to the launching of their site. I learned that a high price for the service will not guarantee reliability. What I need to look for are testimonials from users, the credibility of current users, technical support, and how the prospects look for the web host. I even learned that a good way to test technical support is to send a query on a weekend and see how fast they respond. For a beginner like me, these are priceless tips that will help me in the future.
