I’ve been learning tennis for the past years, desperately wondering why I couldn’t get the hang of it.  It has been the sport that remained elusive to me.  It couldn’t be my gear nor the lack of enthusiasm.  I try my best to get the best racquets and tennis shoes.  Could it be the instructor?  Could it be me?  Nah.

Tennis is one of the most difficult sports.  Watching it on TV makes it seem easy.  But it’s not.  There are several things that you have to develop — resistance, timing, and strength.  Even with top quality gear, if the body does not learn to improve these 3 factors, it is a sport that cannot be maintained.  My timing is not so bad.  It’s the resistance I can’t seem to keep up with.  I tire easily and would give up after a game or two.  They tell me I should jog and improve my resistance and this can only be done if I battle fatigue a day at a time.  I just increase my tolerance more everyday and gradually be strong enough to do several games in a row before tiring.  But that is easier said than done — especially under the warm hot sun.

Nevertheless, getting the right gear is also critical.  No matter how talented you are, without the right racquet or shoes, it will be a difficult game. I favor Wilson racquets at the moment considering it is what I use.  If I need a replacement, I would still lean toward getting a Wilson.  I have heard players that prefer Head racquets.  Problem with me is, I usually stick to one brand before I try others out.  I am a little more fickle with shoes.  With so many out there, I can’t seem to figure out what I want.  I keep looking at the New Balance tennis shoes in the sports shop to replace my worn out Adidas.  They really look great look lighter than what I had been used to.

I usually browse online at TennisPlaza.com hoping that something will catch my eye and inspire me to continue with my tennis practices.  I keep telling myself that sooner or later, I would find my rhythm.  If I do fail in playing well in tennis, I can always say that my gears were great and I looked good while trying.
